post #5 reading response: The abossolutely true diary of a part-time indian
The Abosutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Junior is proud of many aspects of his culture as in the powwow festival. He also lives on a reservation. he loves the indian culture he wants others to learn about it even though hes poor he still has a lot of fun.
Examples of the culture of the spokene is the powwow. " The spokane tribe holds their annual powwow celebration over the labor day weekend. this was the 127th annualone, and there would be singing, war dancing, gambling, storytelling, laughter, fry bread, hamburgers, hot dogs, arts and crafts, and plenty of achoholic brawling." junior loved his culture but he thought that his fellow tribe mates got drunk to often and so many people died because of it. his grandma got ran over by a drunk driver. his dads best friend got shot in the face by a drunk. and his sister died in a fire while sleeping and couldnt wake up because she was too drunk.
Junior loves his native american culture and wants to hold on to it forever and want to tell everyone the truth about native americans. Not that they are rich because they have casinos and they steal money from white people. they do have casinos but it has to be near the road to get alot of customers and thats why junior is poor. Actually native americans are very cultural and have lots of fun and drink and dance and sing and tell stories and have fun even though they might not have enough money. And junior thinks that he realizes that reservations are death camps and he was the only one who left.

drummer boy of shiloh reading response
The Drummer Boy of Shiloh
One important message in the Drummer Boy of Shiloh is that you should take pride in the work that you do and in what you do. No matter what your position is or how useless you think you are you are actually important to the enviorment of where you work. Like Joby he feels unimportant in the army and feels that he might die because he has no protection and he wants to hide behind his drum.In the beggining of the story Joby feels unappreciated and useless. " He tured the drum on its side , where its great lunar face peered at him whenever he opened his eyes" that basically means that yhe was scared so he needed the protection of his drum and he didnt want to be awoken when a peach stone fell. I think that the peach stone stands for worrys and fear because its a stone heavy and when it falls its frighening.
Joby realizes he is important to the army when he talks to the general the general inspires Joby and he cheers him up. "You are the heart of the army. think about that. you are the heart of the army listen to me now." he was telling Joby he was im portant because without Joby then the army would have no hope in winning. Joby needed to play a fast and steady beat so that the army could fight to there hardest and win.
A way this connects to the world because you should take pride in your work even if you have the lowest position. if you still think your post is worthless then ask a superior then they may shed some light. And superior post need lower post and lower post need superior positions for example: student to teacher.
